Dolan Geiman : Dolan Geiman is a Chicago-based artist working primarily in collage, printmaking, painting, and assemblage. Originally from the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, Geiman’s work expresses his Southern identity and rural upbringing along with a lifelong appreciation for found objects and salvaged materials. His use of repurpose materials, both with his artwork and his Rescued Clothing fashion line, has garnered national attention from such media sources as ABC News, Time Out, CBS News, Country Home, and Chicago Magazine and online blogs such as Design * Sponge and Treehugger. Geiman’s Art Machine, an interactive art installation which turns everyday street detritus into personalized collages, has appeared at major fundraisers nationwide. The son of a marketing-savvy watercolor artist, Geiman is also known as an advocate for the self-represented artist. Along with his business partner Ali Walsh, Geiman has curated alternative space and mobile art exhibitions, lectured and consulted on 21st century marketing and sales practices of visual artists, and currently maintains a blog and e-newsletter promoting independent designers and artists.
Dolan Geiman is a regular vendor in nationwide fine art fairs. When he’s not in the studio creating work for shows or out scouting for materials in abandoned structures, Geiman is probably teaching a workshop or trying to catch a walleye.

Gemini Studios : Bio
I am 28 years old - a Chicago based graphic designer/illustrator. I grew up in Ohio, lived in Denver for a year, and now have found myself in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood for the last three years. A graphic designer by trade, my current work explores my fascination with big graphic artwork, vintage/urban design, and advertising posters. Gemini Studio was founded in 1998 with my twin brother Ryan Fowler. Began as a handmade greeting card company, Gemini Studio Art now encompasses a wide variety of media including graphic design , commercial and art photography, and illustration.

Gemini Studio Art is a new collection of my work that I began to create in January of 2008. Experimenting with my original designs inspired by poster-style artwork created in a vintage textural style, I have created a growing number of pieces ranging from Chicago themes, Cats & Dogs, Typography, Food & Drink, and dozen of other ideas that come about daily!

Citizen Shay : Citizen Shay is Steve Shay, a self identified citizen of the World. Steve has no formal training but is trained as a graphic designer with a focus on information design. He believes that information can become art, tell a story, and create emotion. This belief led Steve to start experimenting with his own mixed-media "art" in 2005. Today, he is constantly experimenting with various techniques, creating small pieces of work using various media such as paint, pen, paper, gels, photography, wood, and epherema. It's all an attempt to create pieces that tell short stories while being visually stimulating. www.citizenshay.com

Lenny French : Lenny French—Artist Bio
My artwork is based on my personal walk with the Divine, because it is my belief that the Divine has placed lessons in the world for us to discover.
I try to explore and understand these “wisdoms”. I believe that once we understand them, then we can begin to realize who we are and what the Divine has planned for our lives. I call this, “Seeking the Divine.”
Once we understand, then we can find out what makes us great and bring glory to the Divine. Thus our daily walk with the Divine will become much stronger.
For over 20 years now, I have enjoyed working with oil paint and oil pastels. But now, my work has evolved into using salvaged hollow core doors. I carve images into and out of the doors; giving my work three-dimensional looks and feels. I find that using the salvaged doors, they become a symbol of mans inhumanity to his fellow man. In addition, I have added reflective phrases. These phrases have been given to me by the divine in order for the masses to understand the lessons that are hidden in my artwork.

Debbie Egizio : Art serves a different function for everyone. Some artists want to make a statement - I like to be amused. I make art that I want to look at for a long time, that makes me smile when I see it and think, “Hey, who did that? ……..oh yeah, it was me.”

I am a painter and collage artist who creates images using two different collage techniques. One is mixed media collage, where I combine found images with my own painted parts, the other is what I call painted collage where I draw, paint, cut apart, reassemble and glue all of the random parts that I created onto a painted canvas board. I paint and work in various other art forms, but what I love about collage is the freedom to combine images in unexpected ways and how these images evolve as the pieces are moved around. With this process, each movement can dramatically change the characters expression and body language from one minute to the next.

I've strived for years to come up with my own style and unique approach to making art and that is how my painted collage technique was born.

Bridgette Guerzon Mills : Bridgette Guerzon Mills is a mixed media artist whose body of work includes both paintings and handcrafted journals. She incorporates a variety of materials into her artwork, including photographs, oil paints, acrylic paints and encaustics (wax-based pigments). Her artwork, which has been collected both nationally and internationally, has been published in a number of magazines and books. Originally from Maryland, she attended Northwestern University in Evanston, then lived in Seattle, Washington for several years and just recently returned to the Midwest. She currently resides in Chicago with her husband, their 2-year-old son and dog.

Artist Statement

I am drawn to the inherent beauty and spirit of the natural world, and my artwork is a personal dialogue that reaches into the stillness of that spirit. Through both imagery and medium, I create organic pieces that speak to the cycles of life, memory, and the passage of time. My artwork aims to reveal the beautiful melancholy and the fragile imperfection of the life around and within.

My paintings allow me to bring the often overlooked details of life and bring them into focus. I incorporate moments captured by my photographs with the richness of paint, creating a bridge between two worlds - the real and the reconstructed. I lay down layers of paint and photo transfers, papers or fibers to create depth in both form and meaning. The canvas becomes a multilayered surface that speaks to both the visual and tactile senses. This integration of diverse layers creates an intimate connection that invites exploration.

Encaustic painting is a painting method in which color-pigmented beeswax is melted, applied to a surface and reheated to fuse the paint into a smooth or textured finish. The origin of the word “encaustic” is rooted in Greek, and means 'to burn in', which refers to the process of fusing the paint. The practice of encaustic painting dates back to the 5th Century B.C.
